Topic No. 1: Electrophysiology in normal and abnormal muscal fatigue. In this study we plan to examine the resistance of different muscal fibres in the extensor digitorumcommunis muscle to sarcolemmal fatigue and neuromuscular transmission failure under aerobic and ischaemic conditions at critical firing rates.
Topic No. 2: Sacral nervous system involvement in neurological diseases, trauma, and patients with lower urinary tract and anorectal dysfunction. We propose to study the involvement of the sacral neuromuscular system with quantitative uroneurophysiological methods in patients with degenerative extrapyramidal disorders, cauda equina lesions, anal incontinence and stress urinary incontinence.
Topic No. 3: Recruitment of motor units by transcranial magnetic stimulation. We wish to determine the differences in motor unit recruitment order in contracting vs. relaxed muscles during magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex in man. We expect to disprove the presently accepted hypothesis that the recruitment order is predetermined and identical to that in voluntary activation.
Topic No. 4: Molecular genetic studies of neuromuscular disorders. Our aim is to look for the precise molecular defects in the group of Slovene patients with the clinical and histopathologic diagnosis of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. -We also wish to determine the frequency of 17p11.2-12 deletion (hereditary neuropathy with pressure palsies) in patients with acute pressure neuropathy.
Topic No. 5: Additional sensory input and dynamics of balance. The aim is to study the effects of light touch upon functional reach and dynamic posture strategy.
